The Power Of Honey

29 Oct 2014 The Power Of Honey

Honey_3

Can honey heal your skin conditions? I have been researching the benefits of raw honey and it turns out there are many.

The Science

I’m going to focus here on a few of the benefits of honey when it comes to the skin. All of the research here uses at least 90% pure honey (any pasteurized/ heavily filtered honey wouldn’t have the same benefits):

  1. Wound healing: most of us are aware of the benefits of honey (manuka in particular) for treating MRSA (an antibiotic-resistant bacterial infection of the skin).
  2. Honey has been found to be effective in the treatment of eczema.
  3. Honey has been found to be effective in the treatment of psoriasis.
  4. Honey has been found to be effective in the treatment of severe seborrheic dermatitis (dandruff).
  5. Honey has anti-fungal properties and has been found to be useful in the treatment of jock itch, ringworm, and pityriasis Versicolor.
  6. My favorite: honey was found in one study to be MORE EFFECTIVE than acyclovir in the treatment of cold sores and genital herpes.

Our Recommendation

Keep a tube of 100% sterile Manuka Honey in your cabinet for use on wounds. The antimicrobial effect is so broad that it seems you can’t go wrong.
